8 Inch Airway Buff and Compound Chrome Polishing and Buffing Kit

The 6 piece, 8 inch airway buff and compound, chrome buffing and polishing set offers an all-in-one solution to bring chrome to a show ready shine. Whether you are buffing and polishing your tire rims, exhaust pipes, bumpers, big rig parts or restoring the luster to any chrome surface, this kit will bring your project back to a showroom quality shine. Each chrome polishing set consists of the following 8 inch airway buffing wheels: one blue buffing wheel, one yellow buffing wheel and one untreated white buffing wheel; and the following extra large 3 pound compound bars: one black buffing compound, one brown tripoli buffing compound, and one white rouge polishing compound.

This stainless steel buffing pack provides the ability to cut, color, and polish. The blue buffing wheel is the firmest, which allows the operator to cut and remove scratches, blemishes, and tool marks. The blue airway buff is designed to be used with the black buffing compound which is particularly effective at cutting chrome.

The next step in the polishing process is achieved with the yellow airway buff paired with brown Tripoli. The yellow airway buff is about 15% less firm than the blue airway buff thus provides a superior buff for coloring. The yellow airway used in conjunction with the brown tripoli buffing compound can cut and color with slightly less abrasive than the black. The brown tripoli is perfect for the next step in polishing up chrome.

Finally, the white untreated airway buffing wheel is made of soft 86/80 cotton. The white airway buff will allow the user to polish up to a show finish when paired with the white rouge polishing compound. Each airway buff and brick of buffing compound in this kit is MADE IN USA with premium materials.

Chrome Polishing Instructions:

1. Surface Preparation: Start with a Clean Surface

   • Clean the chrome thoroughly using a mild detergent or chrome cleaner to remove surface contaminants. Ensure the chrome is completely dry before proceeding to ensure the best adhesion and results from the buffing compounds.

2. Sanding: Address Deep Scratches and Imperfections

   • If the chrome surface has deep scratches or significant oxidation, begin with sanding. Start with a grit as low as 400 for deeper imperfections, moving up through 600, 800, and finishing with 1000-1500 grit for the smoothest base. This step is crucial for removing the most severe damage and preparing the surface for buffing. Ensure all sanding debris is removed before proceeding.

3. Initial Buffing: Scratch and Blemish Removal

   • Equip your tool with the blue airway buffing wheel and apply the black buffing compound. This combination is specifically effective for chrome, allowing you to cut through scratches, blemishes, and tool marks efficiently. Work the surface evenly to prepare it for further refinement. Remove any residual compound after this step.

4. Intermediate Buffing: Enhancing Color and Smoothness

   • Switch to the yellow airway buffing wheel, slightly softer than the blue, and pair it with the brown Tripoli buffing compound. This stage aims to enhance the color and smoothness of the chrome surface, using a less abrasive method than the initial buffing. This step prepares the surface for the final polish. Clean the surface thoroughly after buffing.

5. Final Polishing: Achieving a Brilliant Finish

   • For the finishing touch, use the white untreated airway buffing wheel, crafted from soft 86/80 cotton, combined with the white rouge polishing compound. This gentle yet effective combination is designed to polish chrome to a high shine, achieving a show-quality finish.

6. Inspection and Touch-Up: Final Checks

   • Inspect the polished chrome carefully for any missed spots or inconsistencies. Addressing these final details ensures a uniform, mirror-like finish across the entire surface.
