Empire Abrasives Unmounted Flap Wheels
What is a Flap Wheel?
Flap wheels are a versatile abrasive tool constructed by creating a wheel-shaped attachment out of many abrasive flaps fanning out around the center of the device.
Each abrasive sheet is equal in size, consisting of x-weight cloth flaps adhered to abrasive grains, resembling sandpaper. Flap wheels will wear down with use, providing fresh abrasives for a consistent cut and longer use.
This type of abrasive is excellent for working with tubes and pipes, on curved or irregular surfaces, and large work areas.
How can you use Flap Wheels?
Flap wheels are extremely flexible abrasive tools that can be used for:
- Stock removal
- Deflashing
- Removal of Rust
- Cleaning Weld Lines
- Cleaning Weld Spatter
- Finishing and Polishing Metal or Wood
- Light Grinding
- Blending surfaces
- Sharpening tools
Flap wheels can be used on various materials such as ferrous and non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, iron, brass, aluminum, plastics, wood, and fiberglass.
Unmounted Flap Wheels
Unmounted flap wheels are constructed to have the abrasive flaps create a fan-like wheel shape around an arbor hole. The arbor hole is able to connect the flap wheels to bench-top grinders, pedestal grinders, and other straight finishing tools with an arbor connection.
An alternative would be a mounted flap wheel which has a straight spindle in its center.
